Abstract

The prevalence of gait and balance disorders increases with age and is 10% between 60 and 69 years and is more than 60% in those over 80 years and 82% in those over 85 years. The purpose of the investigation was to describe the current situation of gait disorder in the elderly, the descriptive type
study of cross-sectional and qualitative, theoretical and empirical methods were used, the sample design was of the intentional non-probabilistic type with 72 adults higher among other results, 88.6% are female and 11.4% are male; 15.3% use of support instrument, and 13.89% trouble walking, 19.4% difficulty
sitting, 31.94% difficulty stooping or stooping, 13.9% difficulty walking of a place and 6.9% difficulty bathing, by analysis of the Sperman Rho coefficient was obtained (p = <0.01). Among the conclusive aspects, the age for locomotion interferes, therefore damaging to independence, therefore the study is
considered of great relevance to raise awareness and predict health problems and the implementation of strategies that improve the quality of life of Elderly.
