Preservation policies

Digital preservation policies:

The Universidad Nacional Experimental Politécnica Antonio José de Sucre, Puerto Ordaz, in alliance with AutanaBooks Ecuador, maintains digital preservation policies, ensuring the integrity of electronic digital documents, for extended periods of the journal Universidad Ciencia y Tecnología (UCT), thus ensuring the unalterability of its characteristics such as authenticity, unalterability, originality, reliability, and accessibility.

The actions in line with these objectives are:

-Internal preservation: the Universidad Nacional Experimental Politécnica Antonio José de Sucre, Puerto Ordaz, in alliance with AutanaBooks Ecuador, archives in external hard disks on a bimonthly basis all the files that make up the UCT magazine, updating the structure in this same period.

-Long-term preservation: The UCT journal is supported by several indexing databases, including SciELO. With this endorsement, UCT has access to preserve its articles in CLOKSS. For more information, visit Keepers Registry.

-Preservation under Sherpa-Romeo: The University, Science, and Technology journal (UCT) is supported by the Sherpa-Romeo database.

-PKP PN Preservation: This is an additional capacity for the long-term preservation of journal data.

-LOKSS Preservation: UCT participates in the PKP-PNL initiative that allows the preservation of your articles using the LOCKSS tool. For more information, visit Keepers Registry.

Preservation and backups: relevant differences

It is essential to distinguish between backup copies, which are kept as a backup to be preserved in extreme situations, catastrophes, or loss of information. Public information on the server and digital resources in an edition are stored in a digital library.

On the other hand, digital preservation is not responsible for backing up information but for protecting high-quality digital material that will be useful in the future.

For digital preservation, comprehensive recordings of the material are made once a year and a half with new media.
Digital preservation is an institutional responsibility and commitment of all staff. At the Universidad Nacional Politécnica Antonio José de Sucre, Vice Rectorate Puerto Ordaz, in alliance with AutanaBooks Ecuador, complies with the commitment to preserve documents from management errors, technical failures, digitization errors, possible viruses, software problems, metadata problems, among others.

Preservation procedures

- The digital preservation policies comply with the following procedures:
- Careful storage of digital resources.
- Continuous evaluation of software, data assessment, migration, and technological updating.
- Metadata mapping.
- Updating software to keep the information updated and available for future users.
Documents are saved in formats compatible with PDF, XML, and HTML conversion.
