Abstract

This study determined the effects of the lambda probe on the emissions of polluting gases in vehicles that circulate in the province of Imbabura, Ecuador, acquired in the last five years; which is based on investigating the degradation of the oxygen sensor base material in different mileage and characterize its wear depending on the polluting gases that are emitted into the environment. In this case, the vehicle technical review parameters used by the national transit agency were used as a reference. After the comparison, it can be seen that the degradation of the lambda probe affects the emission of polluting gases between 1% to 5% in vehicles whose mileage exceeds 110,000 km of travel and as this mileage increases the degradation in the same way, until reaching 15% increase in fuel consumption and pollutant emissions in motor vehicles that exceed 300,000 km.
