Abstract

In the work that follows, a field method is proposed to correlate the values of the unconfined compressive strength (UCS) and the resistivity in rocks, since in mining projects, it is often difficult to determine the value of the UCS, for which it is essential to send samples to the laboratory, becoming a tedious and expensive activity for the company. If we correlate the values of the resistivity of the rock with the UCS, we can avoid permanently sending said samples, and by means of a relationship establish when the execution of new tests is required in the laboratory. This work was carried out on the basis of samples of an area called Cojitambo, province of Cañar (Ecuador) and on them, electrical resistance measurements were carried out on each of the edges of the generated specimens and in this way we have with a greater number of resistivity data. The results obtained allow a correlation between the properties described above and a possible calculation methodology has been structured.
