Abstract

To develop an application in MATLAB to help the producer select dairy goats, two data processing techniques were used; mathematical profiling and digital image processing. Ten (10) lactating goats were sampled, and data were collected for 60 days, divided into three periods: initial, middle, and final lactation. Photographs were taken directly from the udder at a distance of 50 cm horizontally, and a height of 60 cm, and the main udder measurements were taken. A database was created with the photographic information and processed in GeoGebra and MATLAB software to estimate udder volumes. The results showed that there is no statistical significance between the methods used to calculate udder size (P>0.05), and the best mathematical model that related the variables studied was the polynomial model of degree 6 (R²=0.881).
