Abstract
The linguistic competences, especially communicative macro-skills play an essential role in the construction of knowledge and technologies. They develop mental operations that strengthen the analytical, synthetic, critical-reflexive, and creative thinking, these abilities are the pillars in the empowerment of human progress and development of any country. The objective of this work is aimed at reflecting on the current situation with respect to communicative competences (reading and writing) through the results of bibliographic research and empirical studies carried out in the context. It is based on a mixed design that includes theoretical-conceptual elements (of documentary research) and the conclusions of the diagnostic baseline derived from the exploratory-descriptive research carried out by the research group. The results confirm that there is a moderate mastery of communication skills in the Ecuadorian context of Zone 5, where the greatest problems lie in reading and writing skills, so a reading project is proposed as a solution to work in the different teaching levels.
